Oncology Massage
A type of massage developed specifically for people who have cancer.
Oncology Massage is safe and effective for all cancer patients.
Oncology Massage is specifically for people who have cancer or a history of cancer. It’s a safe form of massage that uses gentle pressure to help manage the symptoms of cancer diagnosis or treatment.
Massage therapy can help relieve many cancer-related symptoms:
Fatigue
Nausea
Anxiety
Depression
Shortness of breath
Memory problems
Dry mouth
Disturbed sleep
For anyone going through cancer treatment, fatigue and depression is a common side effect. I apply slow melting pressure to help counter these symptoms and activate the body’s own chemical factory.
This stimulates the sensory nerve receptors in the fascia, the richest sensory and the largest contractile organ in the body. This then boosts the production of hormones that release a feeling of wellbeing, relaxation and bliss. It also helps ease muscle pain and tension after radiation treatment.
When should I have oncology massage?
Massage can be helpful after the initial radiotherapy treatment and between chemotherapy visits.
When should I avoid oncology massage?
Ports or irradiated areas should be avoided. If you have any heat, redness, tenderness of swelling, it’s best to wait until it’s reduced.
What Qualifications do you need for Oncology Massage?
Registered oncology massage therapists undergo a training program with a nationally recognised not-for-profit training organisation. Visit Oncology Massage Training to find out more.
